'’Noun’’ The tree that is in front of Sturges that Greek organizatiosn paint; "Look, someone painted the ‘‘Greek Tree’’ last night." Results: This is a new word which was previosuly included in the Geneseo Dictionary as "tree." The word was tested on 20 people and 50% of those tested knew the word, without any help. All of these people learned the word at Geneseo, but few of them every used or heard the word. There was no specific trends that were noticed as to word-recognition. Conclusion: This word is local to Geneseo and its use is somewhat limited. Source: Dictionary of Geneseo English, Spring 1999 - Kocher Results: 78% of those surveyed knew this word in 2006, and of those who recognized this word 95% believe it to be specific to Geneseo. Conclusion: This word has moderate to widespread usage and appears to be known and used mainly within the Geneseo locale.-C Adam86% of students surveyed knew this word, and 89% of these students had learned the word at Geneseo. This word is fundamentally a Geneseo slang word that has originated in Geneseo, and is used solely by students who go to school in Geneseo.(Klein, E-H, 2008)As of 2012, 48% of students surveyed know this word, of which 97% believe it to be of local origin.(Fischer, G-M, 2012)

I think it should be noted that the tree is actually public and any organization (or person, for that matter) can paint it.

60.6% of people surveyed had heard this word before and agreed with this definition. 24.2% of people did not agree with this definition. 15.2% of people had never heard this word before. Relevancy on campus was measured on a 1-5 scale. The results were very scattered. 31.7% of people surveyed, rated this word a 3. 24.4% of people rated it a one. 7.3% of people rated it a 5. While most people know this word, it seems to be losing relevance on campus.
